Infrastructure is more than just the 30th Street Bridge or two-way street conversions; it is the strength of our neighborhood associations and the neighbors who step up to lead them. This year, the Riverside Civic League enters a new era.
We are proud to introduce Steve Downing Jr. as the Riverside Civic League President for 2026. Voted in at the close of 2025, Steve isn't just a name on a ballot—he is a 46-year resident of Riverside who has breathed the air of this community nearly his entire life.
Leadership Rooted in Legacy
Steve doesn't lead alone. Alongside his wife, Tanya Downing (Vice President), he is modeling a powerful standard of service for their three sons. While Steve is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership at Marian University, he will be the first to tell you that his "why" isn't found in a textbook.
"Even without the degrees," Steve says, "I would have stepped up to this challenge. My heart and passion are to make Riverside a place of pride and cohesiveness."
Steve’s vision is clear: he wants to empower you to do more, have more, and support one another. He is here to increase neighbor recognition and ensure that the value of Riverside—both its history and its future—is known far beyond our boundaries.
📢 The Clarion Call: Don't Leave Leadership on an Island
A president is only as strong as the community behind them. We have a leader who is ready to manifest amazing things, but he needs us to fill the seats, join the committees, and voice our dreams.
Your Action Plan for Riverside:
Meet the Downings: Don't let Steve and Tanya be strangers. Attend the next Riverside Civic League meeting to hear their goals firsthand.
Bring a Neighbor: Steve’s goal is "cohesiveness." That starts by crossing the street and inviting the neighbor you haven't talked to yet to join the association.
Invest Your Talent: Whether you are an expert in gardening, zoning, or youth mentorship, Steve wants to empower residents to lead. What can you bring to the table this month?
Congratulations, Steve! The Near Northwest stands with you as you carry this mantle.
