Four Ways to Feel Less Stressed This Winter
This season can be a hectic time of year for many of us, so take a few simple steps to relax this year:
Reduce the noise. Turn off those screens, practice breathing exercises, or just retreat to a quiet room for 20 minutes to reset. Meditation and calming music can help center your mind. Eskenazi Health Music Therapy is a great resource that provides “Care for You” recordings at eskenazihealth.edu/programs/music-therapy.
Get some natural light. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, even spending more time near a window can help your mood. Many of us experience seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a form of depression brought on by the winter months. If you find yourself struggling with depression (some symptoms include loss of interest, sleep, or appetite), please reach out to the Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center at 317-880-8491 for additional resources.
Get active and eat healthy. Find ways to walk indoors with friends or participate in your favorite sport. Consistent body movement and a healthy diet can help you stay focused, motivated, and less stressed.
Be in control of your health. Stay on top of your primary care health needs and feel prepared. Eskenazi Health Financial Eligibility Services is available to assist Eskenazi Health patients during Marketplace Open Enrollment, which began Nov. 1 and will end on Jan. 15, 2026. The Eskenazi Health Financial Eligibility Services team can help you make sense of the numerous health care coverage programs available so you can determine the best coverage option (s).
Visit during regular business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday) at the Frank & Katrina Basile Financial Counseling Center on the downtown campus, Eskenazi Health Center West 38th Street, or at Eskenazi Health Thomas & Arlene Grande Campus. Eskenazi Health staff members at other locations can also assist. To schedule an appointment, call 1-855-202-1053 or use Eskenazi Health MyChart online. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Winter can be fun but also challenging. Take the time to relax and reach out for help when you need it.
