An exciting process is underway to preserve and build upon the extraordinary past of a unique community in downtown Indianapolis. Reclaim Indiana Avenue (RIA), and its partners developed an Area Planning Initiative for the Indiana Avenue Corridor.
RIA's first order of business seeks input from residents and community stakeholders, including NNW community members and the Indiana Avenue diaspora who have migrated from The Avenue but have shared roots. RIA invites them and you to participate through several platforms.
The initiative's ultimate goal is to realize an Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD)-certified area plan that will bring together residents and community stakeholders to create a future vision for the area. Indiana Avenue, known around the world, has a rich cultural history. The Indianapolis Environmental Equity Council (IEEC) was awarded a $75,000 16 Tech Community Fund Award to help support the planning initiative. Of great importance is the beautification of Dr. Martin L. King Jr. Street – Indiana Ave. and the Near North Westside neighborhoods' shared public face. RIA invites them and you to participate through several platforms.
