Marian University and Home Repairs for Good!!!

We thank the College of Osteopathic Medicine students at Marian University and Home Repairs for Good (Formerly NeighborLink) for their heartfelt and fantastic work on Wednesday, July 30, 2024. Approximately 160 students paired up with 18 Home Repair for Good team captains to work on nine senior homes in our community.

It was so amazing to see the transformation - not only in the homes and yards but the lives of the participants and residents. When I talked with the Marian students, many told me they were excited to help, not just because they got to be outdoors for the day. Many students learned to do things they had never done before, such as painting, gardening, and using various trimming tools like loppers. Others were excited because they felt fulfilled after seeing the before and after of their hard work.

Some of the most impactful feedback I received was that they were proud to help residents better enjoy staying in their homes. Yet another vital piece was the comradery they could build with classmates they had never met and the relationships they built, which would carry on past the day. The residents I spoke with were so happy to utilize areas of their yard that had been made unavailable to them again due to not being able to do the work themselves anymore. This shows the huge impact we can make by working together in small ways.

Thank you, Marian and Home Repairs for Good!
