The Dr's Say, “Marketplace Plan Enrollment”

The Marketplace is a government-run service that helps individuals, families, and small businesses select and enroll in health insurance plans.  Eskenazi Health financial counselors can assist you throughout the process.

Make sure you enroll during this open period.  After January 15, you can only register if you qualify for a particular enrollment period because of certain life events, such as marriage, childbirth, or a health coverage change.  Those requiring health care coverage through their new plan by January 1 must enroll by December 15, 2023.

Any Marketplace plan you select will include doctor visits, preventive care, hospitalizations, and prescriptions.  But you may need help sifting through specifics of different plans, such as whether your current doctors are in the network, co-pay and deductible differences, and variations in specialist coverage. It's easy to become overwhelmed, so contact Eskenazi Health for assistance.  More than 60 financial counselors are here to help you choose the health insurance plan that best fits you and your family.

Check whether you qualify for financial assistance or specific programs as you compare plans.  For example, the government may cover a percentage of your plan based on your income.  Remember that Marketplace employees and Eskenazi Health financial counselors can assist if you have questions.

If you are a Medicaid member, be aware of changes to the program since the COVID-19 federal health emergency.  While coverage was uninterrupted during that time, the eligibility of Medicaid members has been reassessed since last April, with a plan for eligibility determinations to return to what they were before the health emergency within the year.  While some eligibility decisions will be automatic, somebody may contact you about your address, employment status, income, age, family size, or other information.  Eskenazi Health encourages Medicaid members to save time by ensuring their data is current in FSSABenefits.IN.gov.

Anyone with questions about their Marketplace plan selections or Medicaid eligibility can contact The Eskenazi Health Financial Eligibility Services team.  Call 1.855.202.1053 or schedule an appointment online at www.eskenazihealth.edu/patients/mychart.  Patients are asked to log into their Eskenazi Health MyChart account to learn more.  You can discover more about 2024 open enrollment by visiting www.healthcare.gov or calling 1.800.318.2596.
